Calling Senior Citizens for scrabble

The island of Tamil is not a location where I have any readers, nevertheless I think it's interesting that Scrabble is everywhere!

The Annual All Island Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament will be held on Sunday, October 29. The tournament is scheduled to be played at the Colombo Hilton Hotel and Sri Lankan nationals over the age of 50 will vie for the Deshabandu Clara Motwani Challenge Cup.

Entry forms are now available with Mrs. Indrani Atukorale at 102/1, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7. 2696993 and Mrs. Delryn Wijesinghe , 27. Ridgeway Place, Colombo 4. 2587094.

The entry fee is Rs. 750/- while late entries will be charged an extra fee of Rs. 50/-. The closing date for entries will be October 16.

The tournament will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Association of Senior Citizens with the Sri Lanka Scrabble League.

Registration will be from 7.30 to 8.30 a.m. on the day of the tournament and the games will commence at 9.00 a.m.

The tournament will be conducted in two categories. The ‘A’ category will be for the championship and words used will be used from Collins Scrabble Words 2007, the internationally accepted dictionary now in use.

The ‘B’ category will be for those who prefer the old style of play, using traditional words from the Oxford Dictionary.

Prizes will be awarded for the highest game score and the highest word score. Furthermore, there will be Spot Prizes or each of the five games that will be played.
